Huxley Yards is an affordable housing development located on the northwest side of Madison, directly adjacent to the former Oscar Mayer facility. The development was the first ground-breaking project within the City’s Oscar Mayer special area plan adopted in July 2020. Huxley Yards is a brownfield redevelopment of approximately 32 acres, including two, seven-story affordable housing sites with a total of 550+ units, a 14.4-acre public park space, and construction of over 2,200 lineal feet of new city public streets.
As the developer’s land development consultant, JSD provided land surveying/mapping, civil engineering, landscape architecture, and construction service for the private development sites and public infrastructure. Our team was the appointed developer’s representative during the City of Madison’s engineering department public works design and negotiation of the development agreement contract.
JSD provided 50% public street and utility improvement design plans, construction plans for stormwater facility features, and regulatory permitting. We also managed the design and delivery schedule of the entire public improvements plan requiring significant coordination between the developer and public agencies involved.
