Boys & Girls Club of Dane County
JSD has generously donated over $55,000 worth of services to provide 100% of the civil engineering, structural engineering, land surveying, and landscape architecture services needed in the construction of the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center! The Center will be located at 5225 Verona Road in the former Thermo Fisher Scientific building in Fitchburg, WI. Local developer and longtime supporter John McKenzie bought the building and donated it to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Dane County. The Center will be an active partnership between Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) and the Club plus other local businesses and schools.
The highlight of the Center is a skilled trades curriculum, focused on providing young adults careers in skilled trades like plumbing and construction. This will create generational change within families and help diversify what historically has been a largely white, male workforce. Skilled trades programming is expected to begin in 2022 after the building undergoes renovations. Education, training, certification, apprenticeships, and job placement will be available to young adults in high school. Younger students will have the opportunity to explore career options and learn life skills.
Badger Prairie Needs Network
JSD was thrilled to not only donate $1,500 worth of brand new reusable grocery bags to the Badger Prairie Needs Network (BPNN), but to also send a dozen staff volunteers to do a full work day painting the new addition to their facility and refreshing paint in many other parts of the building. JSD recently assisted BPNN with civil engineering and land surveying services for their facility construction which added additional cooler space, a loading dock, increased the pantry shopping area and expanded the outdoor shelter area for volunteers doing curbside food distribution. JSD is proud to support our local community, especially an organization such as BPNN making a HUGE impact to our families in need.
Homes For Our Troops
JSD is ecstatic to join Homes For Our Troops as the organization focuses on building homes and rebuilding lives with specially adapted custom homes for injured 9/11 veterans. The July 24th, 2021 event kicked off with a formal parade escorting the family of Marine LCpl Bobby McCardle in Muskego, WI as we continue the building of his family’s custom home!
JSD’s very own Dave Roberts coordinated efforts to donate more than $3,000 worth of civil engineering services for the home as well as an additional $600 to be considered a “Kick-Off Sponsor” for today’s ceremony honoring this project! We were proud to spend some time on stage with the family as they gave a huge thank you to JSD for their services as well!
Madison Reading Project
JSD had a handful of staff members volunteer on behalf of Madison Reading Project Inc. to sell concessions at the American Family Insurance Championship at University Ridge golf Course to raise funds for the organization. Temperatures in the 90’s were worth it to raise funds for a great cause!
