McKenzie Regional Workforce Center

Fitchburg, WI

The Dane County Boys & Girls Club McKenzie Workforce Center houses the organization’s corporate office and provides Dane County’s youth with job training and career placement in the “trades” by working with local businesses, foundations and community programs.

JSD exctingly donated 100% of all civil engineering, structural engineering, land surveying, and landscape architecture services for the project. The Center showcases landscape design elements and installation methods to educate and expose landscape design/build as an interesting “trades” career. Incorporated elements include: native/adapted native plantings, a rooftop plaza with plantings, paver patios, concrete flatwork, outdoor classrooms, stone veneer seat walls, outcropping stone walls, a dry river bed for stormwater conveyance, a bioretention basin to treat/manage stormwater, and oak tree preservation.

This redevelopment had limited excess site space, in addition to a challenging slope that forced extra attention to grading and landscape design. Our designers were focused on how to creatively tie the new additions into the current layout.
