Novation Campus II - Public Streets & Utilities

Located just off a major highway interchange in Madison, Wisconsin, Novation Campus is a multi-phase, master-planned development incorporating over 62 acres of land with 1,000,000 square feet of commercial space. Novation Campus II provides commercial development lots in a distressed area of the city.

JSD prepared construction plans for new public streets and utilities along with reconstruction of an existing street, all within the Novation Campus II plat area. The plat is located partially on a former fly-ash fill site, requiring special earth handling and utility requirements. The project consisted of plan and profile drawings for 4,300 feet of new and reconstructed streets. This included a new intersection with Rimrock Road, improvements to Rimrock Road to accommodate the expected increase in traffic and future signalization of two intersections, street trees, street lights, and details necessary to construct the proposed improvements. Design coordination with the City of Madison was required for the traffic signals and water main, coordination with Dane County for the Rimrock Road improvements, and coordination with the City of Fitchburg and Alexander Company on the overall design. A set of bidding documents including special provisions, general provisions, bid form, and a contract was prepared. Because of the possibility of an Economic Development Association grant federal requirements were included in the contract documents and followed during the bidding process.

During construction, JSD provided a resident engineer to work with the Town of Madison’s project representative. This position allowed for observation, construction administration of the contract, coordination with utilities, and coordination with the Town of Madison, City of Madison, and Dane County. JSD also provided construction staking for sanitary, water, storm sewer, curb and gutter, and other components of the proposed improvements.
