Journey House Mitchell Park

Started in 2005, the Journey House Football Program was designed to provide a safe, fun, and competitive activity for youth. The Green Bay Packers donated the synthetic turf from the Ray Nitschke Practice Field in Green Bay for the construction of a new football field and stadium for the Journey House Football Program.

JSD provided engineering and surveying services for the relocation of the synthetic turf. JSD designed a stormwater and underdrain system, an interconnected system of pedestrian pathways, utilities, and bleacher pad. The turf was installed in Mitchell Park in the City of Milwaukee through a cooperative agreement with the Milwaukee County Park System.

The field now serves as the home field for the Journey House Youth Football and Cheerleading Program and League. This league serves over 500 youth, ages 6-14, representing a cross-section of ethnically-diverse, low-income youth from Milwaukee’s inner city. Established in 1969, Journey House is grounded in the philosophy that “Education is a Family Journey”. They embody this belief through their mission of working with the community utilizing a self-help philosophy in order to increase education, reduce unemployment and crime, strengthen families, and revitalize neighborhoods.
