JSD provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services to the River Forest Park District for the renovation of Washington Commons Park. Our landscape architects led two successful public meetings to gather community input from the residents. JSD also collaborated with the West Suburban Special Recreation Association to design a play area which would include elements that could be utilized by children of all abilities.

JSD designed the final master plan, prepared construction documents, and led the bidding, contract administration and construction observation.

The redeveloped park serves all age groups and abilities, and the universally accessible play area highlights play elements with a wide variety of social, emotional, and cognitive play. The creative play area includes poured-in-place rubber surfacing for ease of movement and areas of the concrete walk includes barn plank pavers to provide a textural experience to those in wheelchairs.
