Andrew has a bachelor’s in civil engineering from UW-Platteville with a focus on structural and environmental engineering (stormwater/hydrology). Something you would not know about him from his resume is that he studied French for many years! His very first paid job was during his senior year in high school as a cafeteria worker at a local college, but if he could have any job in the world, he would STILL be a civil engineer but would find a way to continue learning/collaborating with other professionals while volunteering for projects in a community that could use it.
Outside of work, Andrew enjoys cycling, being outdoors, board games, and enjoying great food with others.
If you were added as a new addition to the crayon box, what color would you be and why?
I would be a pencil intentionally tucked inside the box for planning…. One of my favorite parts about Civil Engineering is that it supports life around it, enabling others to grow, yet often sits in plain sight.
If you could build a brand-new phone app to do something helpful for you, what would it do?
I would develop one for meal planning that manages nutrition and grocery store pricing to help support a given budget/lifestyle. I would also want the user to be able to select recipes they want or have it recommend new ones based on products available from the weekly ads.
If you were shipwrecked on a deserted island and your basic human needs – such as food and water – were provided, what other two items would you want to have with you?
I would want permission to be there and friends to go explore with.
