Minimum Required
Education

Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering-Structural emphasis or related engineering field

Experience

Preferred: 5+ years of experience in Structural Engineering design
**Commercial, Retail, and Residential site development a plus

Duties:
  • Accurately and consistently produces professional design and analysis of structural components for various projects, including residential, commercial, and industrial buildings and environments.
  • Accurate and efficient production of detailed drawings, specifications, and reports under the guidance of senior engineers.
  • Delegate, oversee, conduct and report on site visits to assess project progress and ensure compliance with design specifications and safety standards.
  • Collaborate with architects, contractors, and other project disciplines to develop integrated solutions and meet deliverable timelines.
  • Perform structural calculations and simulations using industry-standard software.
  • Participate in project meetings and contribute to problem-solving discussions.
  • Provides technical assistance, oversight, and mentorship to peers/junior staff engineers as needed.
Required Capabilities:
Must display a consistent:
  • Expanded knowledge of building codes and standards (e.g., AISC, ACI, ASCE).
  • Experience with finite element analysis (FEA) software.
  • Extensive knowledge and application of fundamental civil engineering practices
  • Executes, encourages, and upholds established JSD Standards in all aspects of project design and deliverables.
  • Effective and professional communication skills on multiple platforms including: in-person, phone, email, Teams, and in meetings.
  • Willingness and demonstration of mentoring and training of junior staff
  • High degree attention to detail, time and task management, and organization.
  • Ability to multi-task on concurrent responsibilities in a fast-paced environment.

  • Has proactively sought documented project management opportunities and training from Sr. staff.
  • Has proactively sought to progress professional career through self-learning activities and management training avenues in the areas of: Communication, Technical/Professional Writing; Leadership Time Management/Organization.
  • Has engaged manager in developing a Professional Development Plan and explored professional licensing requirements.
  • Consistently demonstrates advanced level of Revit drafting and program functionality skills relevant to project design.
  • Consistently displays ability to prepare detailed drawings, specifications, and reports with minimal oversight
  • Consistently displays advanced knowledge in performing structural calculations and simulations using industry-standard software
  • Begin assisting PMs with proposal writing and scope definition when requested.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to using JSD Standards in design work and voicing improvement ideas to better the product.
Essential Functions of Position:
  • 6-8 hours a day on the computer
  • Must be able to safely drive a vehicle for meetings and site visits, occasionally for long distances
  • Physically able to meet OSHA regulations for being on an active construction site for site visits to active projects
  • Must be able to safely visit sites not yet under construction (outdoor conditions/terrain that may include: farmer fields, marshlands, flatlands, wooded areas) without accompaniment or supervision
  • Standing, walking, bending, squatting multiple times a day for up to 8 hours
  • Must be able to safely climb ladders or scaffolding and willing to perform observations from a scissor or boom lift with safety equipment.
