Oregon Public Library Going Down "in the Books"

The brand-new Oregon Public Library will soon be an incredible enhancement to the Village of Oregon as JSD’s team of designers worked alongside its Library Board several years ago leading to this finished product!

Early on our team provided consulting services for the Village and Library to narrow down location options.  We assisted with preliminary site layouts, site cost estimates and stormwater evaluation to help the Library Board select the best site. Once the site was approved, JSD continued to assist with Schematic Design and refined our construction cost estimates, especially since this time period was experiencing post-COVID economic impacts with a 30% higher construction budget than anticipated. To help address a tight budget, our team of surveyors, landscape architects and civil engineers identified value engineering opportunities to move the project into the Design Development phase.

The project involved site design in an environmentally sensitive area. Soils were challenging, as much of the site lacked infiltration with clay and a high water table. Our team strategically designed a number of parking lot bioretention basins to achieve the required infiltration across the site. In addition to this, we proposed two large dry basins with native plantings to nestle this building and site into the surrounding context. Excitingly, a paved bike path surrounds the site and has a grass trail tie to more bike paths to the east.

Opening later this Fall, the new facility will offer the community a story time room, a community meeting room, study rooms, a quiet reading room, and fun learning opportunities for all ages!
