JSD provided landscape architecture and civil engineering services to the Mundelein Park & Recreation District; as well as prepared the OSLAD Grant submittal for Kracklauer Park. The Park District was awarded the funds in 2024 to redevelop the park.

The Park District had the dream of developing an all-inclusive playground at this popular destination park. JSD held multiple focus groups with families with children with disabilities and the Special Recreation Association of Central Lake County (SRACLC) to understand their needs and goals for the park. The community input was incorporated into the final design including double wide ramps for two wheelchairs. The park includes an accessible fishing station, Boccia court, reconstructed tennis and pickleball courts, universally accessible play apparatus for children ages 2 to 12-years, pollinator garden, site furnishings, fencing to prevent eloping, and an interior network of paths that facilitate access throughout the park.

Kracklauer Park is in the Village’s center, two blocks from SRACLC. This all-inclusive space eliminates the need to drive to another town and allows the Mundelein community to “all play together.”
