Paul Phillips, P.E

Senior Project Engineer II

As a senior project engineer for JSD, Paul takes the lead with clients on oversight and coordination with staff to provide the required design to obtain necessary approvals and permits. He graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison with a degree in civil and environmental engineering and is a licensed professional engineer in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Tennessee, Florida, Ohio, Texas, Iowa, Illinois, Georgia, Nebraska, Indiana, Montana, and Idaho.

Paul shares that the most gratifying part of his role at JSD (outside of getting paid) is solving site grading and stormwater challenges and getting projects approved! His college professor once said, “work smarter, not harder” and Paul said that unfortunately he seemed to NOT have learned that particular college lesson. But if he could have any job in the world and didn’t have to be concerned about income, he would love to help non-profits with development projects, and following closely behind that is mowing grass at a golf course as well as traveling the country and visiting campgrounds to write reviews for RV World.

Outside of work, Paul enjoys hunting, ATV-ing, walking in the woods, camping and golf, followed closely by enjoying an occasional whiskey. He has a wife, two children, and a daughter-in-law!

If you found a lottery ticket that ends up winning $10 million, how do you spend it?
First if I found a lottery ticket, I would attempt to find the rightful owner. If I was not successful, and the money became mine, I would pay off all my debts, give some to family (total not to exceed $2 million) and give the rest away to my church and other charities.

What are some things we wouldn’t necessarily know about you from reading your resume?
I was a bartender at a couple local supper clubs for almost a decade; I once jumped out of a perfectly good airplane; I had open heart surgery as a high school freshman!
