Oregon Public Library

Oregon, WI

JSD’s team of designers began working alongside the Library Board several years before the project came to fruition to provide consulting services as they narrowed down location options. Preliminary site layouts, site cost estimates and soil borings were taken to help the Village and Library Board choose the best site. Once the boards approved the site, JSD assisted with construction cost estimates, especially since this time period was experiencing post-COVID economic impacts with a 30% higher construction budget than anticipated. To help mitigate costs, our team identified value engineering opportunities as the new library finally came to fruition.

JSD provided surveying, civil engineering, landscape architecture and construction services for this project that involved site design in an environmentally sensitive area. Soils were challenging, as much of the site lacked infiltration with clay and a high watertable. Our team worked to install infiltrating bio-basins (one on roof; two in parking lot) and piping water to achieve required infiltration for the site. In addition, there is a large, low dry-pond and all native plants were used in the landscaping. Excitingly, a paved bike path surrounds the site and has a grass trail tie to more bike paths to the east. The new facility offers the community a story time room, a community meeting room, study rooms, a quiet reading room, and fun seating for all ages.
