Lake Mills Elementary School

Lake Mills, WI

JSD provided site civil engineering and landscape architecture design services for the new Lake Mills Elementary School. Services included paving, grading, drainage, erosion control and utility plans as well as stormwater management facility design. This work included incorporating a multi-stage treatment system consisting of infiltration basins, rain gardens, and an underground detention/infiltration system for stormwater quality and quantity control. JSD provided site utility design and repurposing of an existing parking lot into a nature area with native plants. This area not only provided a functional environmental system but also a learning experience for students. The project included LEED design. The team was selected by the US Green Building Council to evaluate proposed standards for the new LEED v4 Beta requirements for educational facilities.

This project was awarded Engineering News-Record’s (ENR) Best of the Best Across the U.S. in the K-12 Education Category. The competition honors construction and design excellence.
