JSD developed the Hodag Park Master Plan for the City of Rhinelander to guide future planning and improvements to the park’s trails, waterfront access, open spaces, and outdoor recreation facilities. Located on Boom Lake in Rhinelander, Wisconsin, the 29-acre park is the city’s largest park and one of the largest public waterfronts in north central Wisconsin, providing recreational opportunities for a wide range of users.

The Master Plan included improvements to park entrances, roads, and parking layouts; additional trail segments; and enhanced water access facilities, including a kayak, canoe, and boat launch, waterfront terrace, multiple fishing docks, and targeted restoration of the vegetative shoreline along the shore path. Additional amenities included a central pavilion and gathering space, ice rink, stage and seating area, splash pad, wedding venue, improved beach access, ski show seating, and maintenance and storage facilities. Together, these improvements provide a framework for enhancing Hodag Park’s recreational opportunities, waterfront experience, and long-term functionality.
