- Department of Military Affairs
- 60,797 Square Feet
- 2016
The mission of the readiness Center is to ensure combat readiness of Air National Guard units and act as liason between the National Guard Bureau (NGB) and the individual states and territories on Air National Guard operational activities.
JSD provided professional civil and structural engineering services for the renovations at the Department of Military Affairs (DMA) Viroqua Readiness Center. Working alongside the architect, JSD reviewed the conceptual Site Plan to verify it met DMA and City design criteria as well as Department of Facilities Development & Management (DFDM) objectives.
JSD also analyzed and laid out the preferred circulation options for military vehicular and truck movements, fire and emergency vehicles and refuse vehicles. An AutoTurn exhibit for turning movements was provided, and based upon the preliminary design and site requirements, JSD identified design constraints and conflicts with the Site Plan.
A preliminary site evaluation for stormwater management and treatment was also done based on publicly available soil information and investigations provided by the Architect. The evaluation included anticipated facilities (basins, rain gardens, structures, bio-swale/retention, e.g.), planning areas required, and approximate costs for planning purposes. In addition, JSD performed a preliminary structural evaluation for the recommended building renovations.
