Dream Big Park
Palos Heights, IL
JSD was hired as consultants for the City of Palos Heights Parks & Recreation Department for the development of Dream Big Park. The park design embraces a love of sports and celebrates local athletes Kendall Coyne Schofield, (United States women’s national ice hockey team) and Michael Schofield (Chicago Bears offensive lineman). Our landscape architects collaborated with the City and the Schofield Family Foundation to develop conceptual designs for the park. The designs were presented to the neighborhood for feedback and a final master plan was developed.
The park is designed for all age groups and abilities and includes a sports-themed creative play area for 2-12 year olds. The play structure provides full ADA access, as well as a sensory wall and ADA swings. The park also features a custom archway, swing bench, shelter and sports themed bollards.
Two interpretive signs are on site and describe Kendall and Michael’s dedication to giving back to the community and their love of sports. Kids can also place their hands in the concrete hand imprints to compare with the hands of an Olympian and NFL player.
