Breiter-Palm Park

Bensenville, IL

JSD was hired as consultants for the Bensenville Park District to create a master plan for Breiter-Palm Park and develop the master plan into construction documents. JSD provided landscape architecture and surveying services for the project.

The Park District wanted to create a universally accessible playground, include an area for the Garden Club, as well as incorporate fitness stations into the existing loop path. In addition, JSD expanded the parking lot to provide more parking and drop-off space for the Northeast DuPage Special Recreation Association’s use during site visits.

The redeveloped park serves all age groups and abilities, and the universally accessible play area highlights play elements with a wide variety of social, emotional, and cognitive play. The creative play area includes poured-in-place rubber surfacing for ease of movement and areas of the concrete walk includes barn plank pavers to provide a textural experience to those in wheelchairs.

The Garden Club Plaza includes custom raised planters and a peace pole built by a local Eagle Scout.
