The Artisan Village affordable housing project is the newest addition on the eight-acre Novation Campus in Fitchburg, Wisconsin. The Village is an eye-catching housing project comprised of a composition of live-work residential units, as well as traditional apartment units in a mixed-use campus-style setting that is walkable and served by transportation alternatives.

Our design team played the lead role in civil engineering, landscape architecture, and surveying services for this project. This included a full municipal submittal package to include a stormwater plan, grading/erosion control plan and the utility plan findings.

In addition, geotechnical coordination took place with a partner firm, as well as utility company coordination. A traffic flow plan was designed, while JSD also designed additional site amenities, including gabion walls and outdoor common areas. Areas also featured an outdoor grill area, patio seating area, and raised community garden planter beds as the development’s goals were to include elements of sustainability among its inhabitants.

Lastly, JSD provided intense planning and intergovernmental entitlement coordination, permitting and an additional focus on ensuring key WHEDA application milestones were being met. We also assisted with construction drawings and administration.
