Abendschein Park Pavilion
Oak Creek, WI
Arthur Abendschein Park is one of two large community parks located in the City of Oak Creek and is a tribute to the first City Mayor. The park has several amenities including a high school baseball diamond, disc golf course, playground, cricket field, walking trails, fishing pond, and a skate park.
In conjunction with a community survey, a beer garden, food truck venue, and outdoor music venue were proposed to activate the space and attract community members.
JSD provided professional civil engineering services for a 100% permeable parking lot, grading, and a new domestic/fire protection water service bored underneath a wetland. Landscape architecture design included shade tree location, native low maintenance plantings, and assistance sighting and setting elevation for the park pavilion.
JSD also conducted an existing condition, topographic, and utility survey to create a base map for the development.
The Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District provided a grant to assist with the sustainable storm water practices on the project.
